Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Program is Back: Recycle Old Car Seats and Get a 20% Discount on New Baby Gear!

Target has announced the return of its popular Car Seat Trade-In program, which allows customers to recycle old, expired, or damaged car seats and receive a 20% coupon for a new car seat, stroller, or select baby gear.[0] The program runs from April 16-29, and customers can bring in any type of car seat, including infant and convertible car seats, car seat bases, and harness or booster car seats. The coupons can be redeemed through May 13, 2023, and are valid for one car seat, stroller, or select baby gear.[1] The trade-in events will be held at all Target stores, except for select small-format locations.[2]

This initiative is part of Target's sustainability efforts, and the materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Waste Management into new sustainable products, such as pallets, plastic buckets, steel beams, and carpet padding.[3] Since the program started in 2016, Target has recycled 2.19 million car seats and 32.9 million pounds of car seat materials through this program.

To participate in the program, customers can bring their old car seats to a participating Target store and drop them off in the designated drop-off boxes located near Guest Services.[4] Customers can then scan the nearby sign into their Target Circle account to receive the 20% coupon, which can be redeemed twice per Target Circle account.[3] The coupon can be used online or in-store, and Target's website has a store locator tool to help customers find participating locations.[5]

This trade-in program not only encourages customers to recycle their old car seats, but it also provides a financial benefit to parents who can purchase new car seats or other baby gear at a discounted price.[4] Plus, by recycling the car seats, Target is helping to reduce waste and promote sustainability. Since the program's inception, Target has recycled over 2 million car seats, and this year's event is expected to continue that trend.
